The First Sitting of the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences

10 01 2019

The first sitting of the Young Academy of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, which took place on 10 January 2019, elected the leadership of the new organisation: Dr Donatas Murauskas, of the Faculty of Law, Vilnius University, was elected chairperson, and Dr Olga Mastianica-Stankevič, of the Lithuanian Institute of History, was appointed a secretary.

The sitting then focused on the Young Academy’s plans for its further activities. Preliminary insights into the issues of research policy, science popularisation, and international cooperation were exchanged and guidelines for forthcoming activities were formulated. A decision was made to collect data on the status of young researchers (including doctoral students) and on the problems arising in their research career in order to form the Young Academy’s position on these issues. It was also resolved to review the volumes of lectures given by Lithuanian scientists and researchers to the schoolchildren, in order to assess the dispersion and accessibility of scientific knowledge. Members of the Young Academy also plan to establish contacts with organisations representing the interests of young scientists in Lithuanian and abroad (primarily in Latvia and Estonia) for further cooperation.
